13 Small Pleasures Lately



1. The price of gas! Down to $2.34/gallon. Yeah, it seems odd to rejoice about that, since I can remember that the price of gas was around $1.09 when I started driving. :shrugs:

2. Coconut cream Hershey Kisses ™ -- I bought a bag last night, and haven’t eaten one yet. But the idea of them pleases me.

3. Indian corn salt and pepper shakers. At the Dollar Spot in Target. Resisted temptation – really, how many condiment containers does one need?

4. New furniture delivery has been scheduled, woo hoo! Not a bunch of new furniture, just one piece. Or as The Computer Guy would say, a furnitch – when he was a child, he figured that since “furniture” is plural, the singular noun must be “furnitch”.

5. The temperature. It was cool enough last night to sleep under a light blanket, but still warm enough to keep the window open.

6. Summer squash and zucchini. Steamed, then sprinkled with salt, pepper, olive oil and lemon juice. Mmmm.

7. Talking with one of the guys from my old job. We started at the same time and were the same age, etc., so we ended up socializing with each other more than the other people in the office. We work in very different places now, but every so often we catch up with each other and moan about our jobs and our lives. He’s a public defender now, and I love hearing about what’s going on, and getting updated about mutual acquaintances and the other people we used to work with.

8. Being right. It’s petty, I know, but I’ve had an ongoing “disagreement” with a coworker on how to handle something. And voila! After going around and around and finally saying, fine do it your way, it turns out I was right! I was gracious in person, but am gloating here. Not very nice of me, is it?

9. A book I’ve been looking for has been located – it’s OOP and only available online and in hardback, but I finally found it! So I’m ordering it, despite my moratorium on hardbacks.

10. Lipton’s Green Tea with Citrus. It disappeared from my grocery store’s shelves, but has magically reappeared! Yay! If I were a true tea-ophile, I would never drink the bottled stuff, only brew my own. But well, I’m too lazy for that, so the bottled stuff suits just fine.

11. My night class – I think it is going to be lots of fun, but also a great deal of work, especially mastering the right to left reading and the script.

12. The nonprofit board meeting (first of the new fiscal year) earlier this week was very well run – we left on time for the first time in forever! And we accomplished stuff! This sounds trivial, but so often, we start with an agenda and then the meeting just degenerates into a babble, shifting from one topic to another without a decision having been made. New format, new rules, no more wasting time!

13. Birthday plans – mom’s birthday coming up is a milestone, and I’ve gotten The Biochemist and The Computer Guy semi-organized for a fairly nice gift and photo album.
