Poor impulse control

I stopped at the bookstore last night to pick up The Gladiator's Honor, a Roman-set historical romance. Did I leave with that single book? Of course not -- that's like asking chocophile if s/he could escape a chocolate factory with only a single chocolate bar. I have poor impulse control and require immediate gratification. On an endcap, I found Suzanne Brockmann's reissue of Ladies Man, a hard to find, out of print, limited edition category romance she wrote early in her career, which has sold for obscene amounts of money at half.com and ebay. And Morrigan's Cross -- I was planning on borrowing it from the library, since NR's pb trilogies are hit or miss for me, but it was sitting right there in a little display rack. I had two Bombshells in my hands as well, but I talked myself out of them. Did not talk myself out of a Harlequin Presents by Helen Brooks (the title escapes me) that is turning out to be a pretty good book -- no sheikhs or dukes or secret babies, just a guy pursuing a woman who has control and family issues; no Big Mis, no melodrama. I'm pretty impressed, actually.

Plus I have the Banerjee, Ward, and Singh preordered, along with a copy of Bujold's The Sharing Knife which isn't out until October.

It occurs to me as I type this that I am greedy for books, a book glutton. It doesn't matter that I have a massive TBR pile and access to a fairly good library. I want more. More, more, more. What does that say about me?

You are not alone, poor impulse control is the bane of my existance. I picked up Morrigan's Cross yesterday too. Started it last night, even though I was already reading SK's Salem's Lot. Ward and Singh are both on my preorder list too.

Yes, when The Biochemist and I talk about our bookbuying, we use a justification like that: it's not like we're doing drugs (literally, although books do have a narcotic and addictive effect); we don't smoke; we don't drink to excess (often); we aren't letting our children go hungry (we don't have any); etc.
