Other books
Dec. 19th, 2005 01:30 pmFinished The Secret History of the Pink Carnation and am contemplating my review. Liked it. Reminded me of Byatt's Possession in a very superficial way.
Still thinking about The Typhoon Lover by Sujata Massey. I'm dissatisfied with the personal part of the book, in terms of Rei Shimura's life, rather than the mystery portion. I'm not sure what to write about that, though -- will I keep reading the series? Don't have to worry about that for awhile, since this book was just published. Beyond that, the author had a character who lived in Washington DC talk about taking the Metro to Dulles. But the Metro doesn't go to Dulles. Metrobus has a line going to Dulles from downtown, but no rail line. The author may have been using the word "Metro" to encompass all public transportation in DC, but no one here does that. When you say Metro, you mean the train/rail; if you are riding a Metrobus, you would say that you are riding the bus. That kind of inconsistency with local habits irritates me.
