Lots of reviews, all over the place. Pros and cons. I want to see it still, but I'm feeling a little worried. Not really about how good or bad the movie may be, but about the set up of the love triangle. I'm not a particular fan of them generally, and the set up in this case likely won't work to my taste either.

Captain Jack Sparrow is swishy and macho and gross and hot all at once, which is fascinating, and which makes me admire Johnny Depp all the more for his acting skill. But he's not really a romantic hero for me. Will Turner comes closer to being heroic for me, although Orlando Bloom is a little too boyish for my taste. I forever see Legolas when I look at him. In fact, I like Norrington best: in part because I loved the costume uniform in PotC1 (it's both foppish and well, uniformish) and in part because it is Jack Davenport. Really, having seen his Steve in BBC's Coupling, my vote has to be for him but unless something drastic has happened, he's out of the running.

Apparently I'm not the only woman to think so -- check out the comments posted in Teresa's column at SquawkRadio, which was brought to my attention when Bev posted about it.

Jack Davenport's in these films? Woo! I am so there.

(yes, I know I'm waaay behind the times, since I still haven't seen the first one...)

Yup, he's Captain/Commodore Norrington. I get the impression that his character has loosened up a bit in the second one, while he was very proper and stuffy in the first.

Davenport was also the only thing (other than Dermot Mulroney in a towel) that made The Wedding Date watchable. Otherwise it was awful.

I'm there with Teresa. Saw the film last night, and the most interesting character in it was Norrington. Clearly, this is a bad boy who needs redeeming by the right romance novel heroine.

Or author.[g]

Hmm, I seldom go to the movies on week nights because I have to get up early, but might make an exception this evening. I'll just have to yawn through work tomorrow morning. *sigh* Jack Davenport....

The idea of the good guy gone bad kind of appeals, instead of the usual bad boy who is reformed.

Yeah, no doubt about it Norrington is much more interesting in this one. . .
