Hot chocolate

jmc_bksI've journaled before about my lack of interest in coffee here. Now that winter is here, I consume a good bit of tea and hot chocolate. Usually I keep a box of cocoa powder in my desk and some milk in the fridge at the office, making my cocoa with half water, half milk. I'm out of milk, so I stopped at one of the cafes in Union Station. Not Starbucks, although I love their peppermint hot chocolate, because the line there is insanely long. Small hot chocolate, no whipped cream, no foam. Doesn't seem like a complicated order, does it? It had foam, but no whipped cream. After scooping out the foam, I took a sip, only to discover that the foam had been the only milk involved in the making of that hot chocolate; it was spooned on top of the cocoa from a separate steamer. The drink was hot water stirred into cocoa powder. Grrrr. If that was all I wanted, I could've made that in my office and saved three bucks. Lesson learned, though. For real hot chocolate (meaning, made with milk, not water), I must brave the long line of Starbucks...or keep the office refrigerator better stocked with milk.
On the book front, I'm still working on The Secret Life of the Pink Carnation. Next up will be Death in the Sun, which is a nonfiction book about bullfighting. I finished Sujata Massey's The Typhoon Lover last week, but haven't done a review of it because I have mixed feelings about it. The mystery was good, but I'm not sure I like where the author is going with the protagonist, Rei Shimura.
More on the book front: AAR has posted a review of the new JD Robb book, Memory in Death. I have very little will power, so I will be buying this hardback immediately upon its release...or maybe even pre-ordering. MiD doesn't come out until the end of January, but I want it now! I'm spoiled, and I have immediate gratification issues. If I were an infant, I'd be throwing a tantrum: Want! It! Now!
