I'm feeling kind of empty, when it comes to original thought, so here a simple 13: 13 DVDs I own that I watch regularly, even though I could probably turn off the sound and recite lines of dialogue verbatim. In no particular order.

Thirteen Things about jmc's dvds

1. SportsNight. This TV show was cancelled after only two seasons, which is truly a shame.

2. To Kill A Mockingbird. Amazing movie, which I like as much as I like the book -- which is a very rare thing.

3. Citizen X. Donald Sutherland's accent comes and goes, but Stephen Rea is worth every painful minute of the accent.

4. Firefly. Another TV show cancelled early. And the movie Serenity wasn't bad, either.

5. Croupier. Dark, dour, with Clive Owen as protagonist.

6. Gosford Park. There is so much going on here -- you have to pay attention and watch EVERYONE.

7. The Bourne Identity. And to a lesser extent, The Bourne Supremacy.

8. The Matrix. "I know kung fu."

9. Roman Holiday. Duty and honor vs. personal inclination. Plus Gregory Peck.

10. Bull Durham. The speech Crash Davis gives while ironing? He needs to come iron at my house. Er, Crash Davis, that is, not Kevin Costner -- I like the character, but I'm not interested in the movie star.

11. The Thomas Crown Affair. You knew he was the thief, but couldn't figure out the end game or if he was going to get caught. And the love scene on the stairs? Beyond hot.

12. Star Trek: First Contact. It's got the Borg, Data dealing with his humanity, time travel, etc.

13. M*A*S*H. Alan Alda's Hawkeye; Harry Morgan's Colonel Potter; McLean Stevenson's Henry Blake.

I've got 6 of those--I even love 3 of them, but the only movie I can quote is What's Up, Doc? with Barbra Streisand & Ryan O'Neil. It's mentioned obliquely in my TT.

Streisand movies

I've never watched a Barbra Streisand movie. I've only seen pieces of The Way We Were in other movies or on TV -- it was the topic of an episode of Sex in the City I think. Is What's Up, Doc? worth seeing?

What's Up, Doc? is laugh-out-loud funny. It's a farce, and very silly, but there's a story there--it's not just one-liners. The banter is great. Definitely worth renting, at least.

I'll add it to my Netflix list, then.

Gosford Park

I love Gosford Park--it is a really great movie. Did you know that the screenwriter wrote a book? I think it's titled Snobs. I've been meaning to check it out, but haven't gotten around to it.

I didn't know that. I'll have to check at the library for it. Thanks for the info!
