Fan Girl Behavior
Jun. 3rd, 2006 01:32 pmit appears that I display a few of the characteristics of fan girl behavior, but do not approach rabid status :)

You Might Be a Fan Girl If
. . .You own more than one copy of a book. Um, yes.
. . .You have emailed or mailed a gushing letter of praise to an author. No. Although I have emailed an author who didn't have an active website about her backlist.
. . .You belong to and participate in discussion at an author’s website or listserv. I belong to several author listservs via Yahoo (love the announcements and occasional excerpts) but I don't participate in discussion or get daily emails -- too much chatter going on.
. . .You have voted in a contest as the behest of an author. Nope.
. . .You have rearranged an author’s books at a store to give her greater visual exposure. (RFG) CBA.
. . .You have given “conversion” packages of an authors’ works to another reader. Nah. I've pushed Lois McMaster Bujold on a few people, but only via The Curse of Chalion, no "conversion" package. Is a single book a package?
. . .You have written fan fiction based upon an author’s works. CBA.
. . .You have given a 5 star review at amazon.com just to counter negative ratings. (RFG) CBA.
. . .You have named yourself after a favorite chacter, such as Mrs. Wolf MacKenzie. (RFG) Uh, no, and I think that anyone who does so needs therapy. They are fictional characters, people!
. . .You see an author’s book at the store but refuse to buy it because it could hurt the author’s bestseller numbers or you buy it and go back and buy a second copy on the release date. (RFG) CBA - if it is out, I'm buying, I don't care about release dates or bestseller numbers.
. . .You know the street date of an author’s books and what it means. Yes. Is that really fangirlish, or does it mean I've absorbed the information about the publishing industry?
. . .You have reported a store for violating a street date. (RFG) CBA.
. . .You have pretended to be more than one person commenting on someone’s blog in defense of your favorite author. (RFG) :snort: Again, why bother?
RFG=Rabid Fan Girl
CBA=Can't Be Arsed (my new favorite acronym, via KarenS or Maili, I believe)

Date: 2006-06-05 08:20 am (UTC)But I do post on several author blogs and messageboards, so does that mean I'm one up on you? And is that a bad thing or a good thing?
I agree with you on the street date thing.
