Have you ever done something that seemed like a good idea at the time but turned out to be a disaster?  I'm looking back at my decision making right now and wondering WTF?

I'm in New York right now.  In the middle of a blizzard.

As my mother would say with great sarcasm whenever I did something lacking common sense as a teenager, Gifted and talented.

Walked around, saw two shows, had a really good dinner, then took the subway to the hotel in SoHo.  I'm thinking that I'll be here an extra day, which is fine because I booked the room for a second night this morning when I was wibbling about my plans.

Still, would it have killed me to stay home for the blizzard there?  Probably not.  But this is an adventure...right?

Well, I'm up here in NJ, too, but we got, like, maybe, 4 inches. Gotta love micro-climates. Wish I could get into city to see you, but not so much on the happening.

Enjoy!

Moving in the city today during the clean up was actually harder than moving around yesterday at the height of the snow. Maybe next time :)

How much snow did you get at home? It would be sort of ridiculous to drive how many hundred miles north, only to get more snow at home than in NJ.

And apparently Baltimore got little or no snow. The only white stuff on the ground is the salt spread in anticipation of the storm.

Yes! It's an adventure! AN ADVENTURE!

"New York in a blizzard? DONE! Now, please give me that 'Been There, Done That' t-shirt. And while you are at it, reserve that other t-shirt with my name... yeah, that 'Tsunami? Rode on it!' t-shirt."

I'd kill for a really good dinner.

It is an adventure! And it has been fun, despite having to get up after only a couple hours sleep to catch the om-my-god-o'clock train in order to be back at work on time tomorrow (later today?). When I wrote this post, I'd just stumbled back to the hotel and was seriously disheartened by the state of the streets in SoHo compared to Midtown, and worried about travel delays.

In retrospect, my dinner was good but not great. Made better and more enjoyable in part because I could see all the snow and wind but wasn't out walking in it ;) Chatted with a bunch of people, got some Broadway gossip from one of the servers (another cast member of Spiderman hurt?), etc.

And we just cancelled our plans to go to NY and I'm regretting it. So there you are.

It's always greener...

If it's any consolation, Amtrak appears to be running about 2 hours late in either direction, and traffic is a mess. Midtown was still a disaster this evening, and SoHo was about the same.

Sure, it's an adventure. If you have a warm place to stay and enough toilet paper, it's a SUCCESSFUL adventure!

We only got about 8 inches and have already dug out which is sort of depressing. I like it when the whole place is closed down for at least a day.

Merry Christmas, late!

I had TP and a warm place to stay, so it was a successful adventure, Kate. Although I've somehow torn the hem out of my trousers on the left leg, not sure how, and they are spattered with something white (salt? deicing chemicals) that didn't seem to want to come off when I dabbed with a damp cloth.

Only 8 inches? Only? Your snow perspective has been skewed. Eight is more than enough, no only involved there.
