It's ridiculous for an adult to be so thrilled with the release of a YA book. Just call me immature, though, because I emitted a little squeee of joy when I saw that Megan McCafferty's Charmed Thirds will be released next month. When I read the first two books, Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings, I totally wanted to be a teenager again and to find my own Marcus Flutie. [Ignoring the fact that I knew a real life Marcus-kind-of-guy back then, smart as hell but always completely stoned, and couldn't stand him for a variety of reasons.] So I'm ready to read about Jessica Darling's college years and see what happens with the two of them. Plus, Sloppy Firsts was the first book I read and liked that was told via journal entry.

I am totally with you on reading and being exciting about YA novels. I loved Stephanie Meyer's TWILIGHT and I look forward to the sequels. I'm currently reading a YA novel (gave up on the TBR challenge almost), called, The Thief, by Megan Whalen Turner and it's fabulous so far. What other YA besides the one mentioned in your blog entry that you would recommend? I've bought several that seem more adult but are shelved in YA for some odd reason. Oh and I do read the Harry Potter books, too.

Off the top of my head, these are the YA books that are keepers for me:

L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables series
Irene Hunt's Across Five Aprils and Up A Road Slowly
Cynthia Voigt's Tilghman family series (but some I liked better than others)
Laurie Halse Anderson's Speak
MaryJanice Davidson's YA book, which I reviewed here (http://jmcarr2001.livejournal.com/27629.html). Not a Top 10 book for me, but I did like it a lot.
The Witch of Blackbird Pond, which I reviewed here (http://jmcarr2001.livejournal.com/26319.html), which has been a keeper for me since middle school.

Let me think about it and peruse my bookshelves, then I'll either blog about YA books or post a list.

ps -- I have Twilight in the TBR mountain - I think I picked it up after reading your review.
