Today is Smart Bitches Day! Celebrate!
But I'm blanking on a topic. I've got a couple of ideas brewing, but the aren't ready to perk yet. So I'll talk about my reading slump instead. A copy of The Mysterious Miss M that I requested at the library finally came in, so on Saturday I hied me over to the branch to pick it up. And I returned it this morning while running errands because TMMM didn't pass the 50 page test for me. It wasn't bad, I just didn't care about Madeline or Devlin. Same for Jade Lee's Seduced by Crimson. I skimmed Tara Janzen's Crazy Kisses this weekend too.
Tangent -- what's up with all the series lately? A bunch of people have blogged about series-itis lately, so I'm not gonna, but still! CK is another book that doesn't make any sense if you haven't read the three books that came before it. I read the first one (~meh~), skimmed the second, skipped the third. This fourth book was also ~meh~ for me, but I'm planning on read the fifth installment, because that character (Skeeter -- I had a childhood friend named Skeeter, so I thought the name was cool) interests me. Otherwise, I don't get all of the squeeing going on in RomanceLandia for Janzen's Crazy series.
Back to my original gripe: I'm in a reading slump. I read Lover Eternal and was pretty wowed by it, despite a couple of problems that I blogged about here and here. Read Laurie Halse Anderson's YA book Speak, which was excellent. But nothing since then has really satisfied me. I've tried a graphic novel, manga, a mystery, romance (historical, contemporary and paranormal) -- nothing. Normally, when I'm in a reading slump, I'll go back and read Persuasion or Anne of Green Gables or Clancy's Without Remorse. [WR doesn't really fit with the other two, but it's my only Clancy keeper, and I love the John Clark/Kelly character. He almost makes later Jack Ryan books worth re-reading. Almost. But not quite.] But I keep picking them up and putting them down. I can't figure out what to do to get over this.
Any suggestions?
