The Calvert County Library and its Board of Trustees are made of chocolate flavored awesomeness. After parents complained about And Tango Makes Three, the library refused to pull the book from the children's section or to label it as being about gay families, because the library's job is to disseminate information, not to censor or segregate it. And the board backed that decision up, with one member saying, "This is a public library. We are here to be welcoming of all families of all kinds."

Thumbs down to the original complaining parent, who apparently wasn't paying attention when her 7 year old selected the book and checked it out. Monitoring what her children read is her job, not the library's.

Hi, Jennie! How's school? Doing any reading for pleasure or is school work absorbing all of your time?

Hi JMC! School's great -- I really like my classes (except when I'm up in the middle of the night finishing a paper or something -- then it's hard to remember why I wanted a graduate degree). I have depressingly little time for fun reading -- I've been working on Julie Anne Long's last book for about 3 weeks. :( So sad. But my semester is over soon and I'm going to indulge in lots of pleasure reading. I can't wait. :)
