Meant to blog about this a while back but forgot.

Overheard on the train:

One twenty-something girl to another as the searched for seats:   She's a beringer of bad news.
Response:  Oh, no, what happened?

Okay, clearly the intent of the message was conveyed.  But.  She's a Napa Valley red wine of bad news?  A harbinger of doom?  A bearer of bad news?  I just.  Really?  A beringer of bad news?  I think I'm going to have to borrow the phrase and work it into a conversation.

Reminds me of the Lewis Black routine of how overhearing something stupid or nonsensical can cause you to have an aneurysm years later. His was, "If it wasn't for my horse, I wouldn't have spent those years in college."
