That sounds a bit melodramatic, doesn't it?  Chef...and spy?  But check it out -- Julia Child worked for the OSS, precursor or predecessor of the CIA , during World War II.  Wow.

If you're thinking about joining a CSA, take a minute and read the Post's series on them.

Dear New Commuter Friend:

I don't know you.  You don't know me.  Nor do you know most, if any, of the ~10 people crammed into the vestibule of the train with us this morning. But I think calling you "friend" is appropriate:  after all, you shared stuff with all of us that normally I would only share with intimate friends.  Our unfamiliarity did not stop you though!  Thank you for sharing with us all the details about your weekend companion -- how you met him at the second bar of the evening, what you drank, where you went, what you did (including how many times and some stuff I wouldn't want to know about you even if we were the best of friends), and where you ended up waking up.

Yay for you!  Sex is a very good thing.  Seriously.  And since you were safe about it (at least the first time, according to your conversation), more power to you.

Oh, you mean you didn't intend to share all of that?  Ooops!  Well, perhaps next time you decide to share an adventure like last weekend's, you'll do it in a more appropriate venue.  After all, full-volume, carrying-voiced conversations on cell phones are fairly hard to keep private when a train is standing room only.

Me, I'm replacing my dead iPod, so that I don't accidentally overhear another one-sided conversation like this morning.

Feeling old and prudish,
Moi

In retrospect, it makes me laugh. But at the time I was cringing. TMI!!!

Don't you just love those conversations on public transport! I think I hear one of those on average once every couple of weeks as I catch the train to work!

Normally I can tune conversations out while I'm on the train. I bring a book and tune out to what everyone else is doing. Wasn't so successful yesterday, though.

Y'know, this occurred on a train that I don't normally ride. I was running late yesterday, so I missed the usual one, which tends to be *very* quiet. Most people are still half asleep, I think. This one was louder generally, even without the Weekend Update.

People and their cell phones - I often wonder if they are loud so people will hear them. We went to sit on a patio for dinner the other night and couldn't believe the uh...balls of the guy behind us. Talking on a cell phone while his dinner companions waited for him to get off otherwise they would have had to yell at each other. Finally hangs up and decides he can sing with music playing thinking he's all cool (so I'm thinking he's in his early 20s because I didn't see him when I sat down). The waitress came to take our order and I told her we were moving - all the way around the building. The guy knew we did it because of him but he still carried on. At least we got out of ear shot! As we're eating dessert I hear a commotion at the entrance and look up to see a stalky 40-ish man leaving. Bob leans over and says 'that's the guy'. Okay, now when did that generation decide they could act like that!!
