  • The Chemist listens to books during the drive to work.  He tends more toward classic fantasy and science fiction.  Right now he's listening to all of Diana Gabaldon's work.  He asked if I'd read them and I mentioned that I read the first one while we were on vacation in Hawaii but wasn't interested in continuing the series.  His general review?  That he loves the history and the plotting, but wishes that DG would spend less time on the relationship and sex between Jamie and Claire.  I had to laugh.

  • The Biochemist recommends Libba Bray's YA series, which I have TBR.

  • I'm trying to figure out why the totally screwed up and independent Sirantha Jax (from Ann Aguirre's awesome Grimspace) appeals to me, but Danny Valentine irritated me to the point of abandoning the promising series.

  • I couldn't find a single book that looked interesting at any of the book stores or magazine stands at the airport in Houston.  And (this may be a first) we didn't go bookshopping over the weekend.  Maybe someone should check our temperatures -- were we ill that book browsing did not occur?

I second the Libba Bray recommendation, although I am still waiting very impatiently for the third book to come out here!

1. I read the first 4 Gabaldon books, and have #5 in my TBR, but my favorite reaction was when I asked my best friend's younger sister about book #5 and she wrinkled her nose and said, "Jamie and Claire sneak off to have sex in a barn. They're TOO OLD to do that!" And they're in their 40s or 50s, I think. LOL!

2. If you want a quick rundown of the rest of the Saintcrow books, I have a spoileriffic post on my page about the last 3 books.

1. Makes me laugh. But at the same time, do I want to think about my mom and her SO (both 50+) having sex? Um, no.

2. Thanks for the reminder. I skipped the reviews back when I thought I was going to read the whole series.

I'm reading it right now AND,AND - I went to the bookstore today and got Asaro's new one, The Ruby Dice and I am really wanting to dive into that one, too. What grade did you give Grimspace? Did I miss it?

I haven't reviewed it yet -- read it over the weekend. Probably I will grade it a B+ or A-, depending on how I feel once I organize my thoughts and write my review. It felt like Firefly mashed with Star Wars (with a female Han Solo, personality-wise) mashed with Star Trek.
