Or, as The Biochemist put it in her email to me this morning, Happy Love Stinks Day!

Earlier this week the Post published a list of reader recommended romance, the result of their earlier query.  Some of their book summaries are a bit snide, but I'm impressed with the size of the list and its variety.

I'm surprised genre romance made the list at all, given the general snottiness of newspaper book sections.

Some of the choices surprised me. For instance, I would never have chosen Ashes in the Wind as the best Woodiwiss to recommend...Come Love a Stranger and A Rose in Winter were far better.

Pleased to see WTT from Crusie on the list.

The Byatt? A snooze-fest, IMO. But then again, it's probably what literary snobs consider romance.

I think if the Book Section writer had been asked to make the list, no genre romance would've appeared. But a few weeks ago on the book blog, they solicited reader suggestions. Although the didn't publish all of the suggestions, they took a good chunk of them.

Possession? Eh. The book bored me even more than the movie did.

That's actually a really good list. So surprising. It's got The Blue Castle AND Desiree. Plus a Carla Kelly! Nice. I wonder how they came up with the little book summary. Sounds like most of them come from cover copy, not from someone who's read the book.
