I bought several books this month from eHarlequin, including Beau Crusoe. So I am now on their email list. Just what I need -- another automated email clogging my inbox. The email for the week of the 26th? All about Black History Month...which is now coming to a close. Perhaps it would've been better to spotlight BHM earlier in the month? Maybe they did and I missed it because I deleted those emails without reading them.

The email included a list of their ten best sellers, but I'm not sure if that was for the month or over an extended period of time. If you are interested, go here.

The book that looks most interesting: the nonfiction account of the romance of Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance, Friends: A Love Story. Available as a Kimani Press Special release.

Via Galley Cat: Bassett & Vance did a reading at the Yale Club on Monday and the Borders at Columbus Circle on Tuesday. Wonder if they'll be taking the show on the road. I'd wait in line to hear them reading.

If you didn't take my earlier recommendation to read [livejournal.com profile] lightgetsin and [livejournal.com profile] sahiya's Gregor/Miles fanfic, What Passing Bells, you are missing out on an excellent fic. The link is above, but it is also available on at [livejournal.com profile] bujold_fic. If you've read anything set in the Vorkosigan universe, I think you'd be pleased with this one, even though it is off canon (is that the right phrase?), because it works with the established characters without twisting them out of recognition the way that FF often does.

...the only come-ons he even registered came from a cheerfully maniacal dwarf with an astounding range of tactics from the sweetly romantic to the downright filthy.

That sentence captures Miles perfectly, IMO.

Cats do like Stilton with lemon peel. Here's a warning, just in case you happen to leave some out unattended while answering the phone. You may return to find a creature hunkered over it, licking. Love the cat. Don't love cat saliva on my cheese. Ick.

While checking out the NYT Week in Review article about the impact of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report on book sales for "serious" authors, I saw the link to an article on advanced math in medieval architecture. The article included a link to the article in Science magazine. I'm hoping I can get a copy from The Biochemist or The Chemist, since I refuse to pay $10 for a single article.

As promised earlier, here is my ballot compared to the poll results at AAR.

Longish post, so I'm using a cut. )
