Just a couple of links today, since I've spent most of the day out in the sunshine.
Via Karen: I've had a crush on Joss Whedon since listening to his Equality Now speech answering how/why he writes such strong women characters, but it has now magnified.
Check out this blog, which details the experiences of the Congresspeople (4 out of 535) who could be arsed to participate in the Food Stamp Challenge.
My column is up at Readers Gab. Meh. I scrapped two others and that was the dregs.

Date: 2007-05-22 01:13 am (UTC)Almost...until I read that a budget without benchmarks is being drafted. Because what the unitary executive wants is more important than what 60% of the country wants. *creeps further left on the political spectrum*

Date: 2007-05-22 01:20 am (UTC)I'm just about as far left as you can go politically - being raised in Frederick will do that to a person.
Still, mad props should go to the lawmakers who have taken part in this challenge. I feel sorry for Tim Ryan, who had his PB&J taken away by the TSA. (http://www.house.gov/htbin/blog_inc?BLOG,oh17_ryan,blog,999,All,Item%20not%20found,ID=070520_0614,TEMPLATE=postingdetail.shtml)

Date: 2007-05-22 01:45 am (UTC)I used to be what one of my friends called a flaming moderate. Middle of the road. Not so much anymore. I think the usual progression is to become more conservative as you get older and become a responsible, taxpaying citizen (as opposed to being a crunchy, liberal broke student benefiting from pork barrel policies), but that has not been the case for me.
Oh, the irony. Because PBJ could be a weapon of mass destruction. ::eye roll::

Date: 2007-05-22 02:39 am (UTC)Fredneck gets its name for a reason. It's a hotbed of intolerance.

I think that is certainly the trend, but I think the reverse is also true, especially when you grow up in a fairly conservative home. Plus, honestly, there isn't a lot of room for conservative here in New York.
And yeah, PB&J is the new C4. Didn't you read the memo Homeland Security sent out? Also outlawed, human beings - as they are 90% water - and water as we all know is high-explosive.
