Keeping appointments
Jan. 28th, 2006 12:09 pmI'm trying to decide how irritated I should be. A friend called me last weekend about going bra shopping at C-Mart. Wacoal bras (normal $45+) on sale for $15 -- I'm totally there. We were supposed to meet this morning at a diner for breakfast, then go shopping. She's habitually late, so when she emailed and said let's meet at 8:30, I figured she'd be there around 9am, which is fine. I brought a copy of the City Paper (I love to read the Savage Love column and the personals). When she hadn't shown up by 9:30, I ate breakfast, then headed out. No message on my cell phone, no message at home. The irritating thing is that she emailed to confirm our plans last night. I'm a little worried about her, but this has happened before, so I'm more aggravated that she didn't leave a message or call.
Finished Memory in Death yesterday afternoon, am thinking about my review of it. I would give it an A, but more for continued character development than for the mystery. I guessed the murderer early on; I think Robb did a good job of not committing Eve to a particular suspect early on.
The more I blog, the more impressed I am with Rosario's reviews; they are so thorough, and she posts so regularly. How does she do that?
Another book to look forward to: Kushiel's Scion by Jacqueline Carey, the store of Imriel de la Courcel, adopted son of Phedre and Jocelyn. Coming in June.

I HATE that

Date: 2006-01-30 07:14 pm (UTC)Also, behavior like this is endemic in my family, so I'm more resigned to it than angry. My sister and I are the odd ones of the bunch, because we actually arrive places early or on time. We now tell my brother and SIL that holiday dinners are at 3pm, in order to get them to the house in time for the 4pm sit down.
Gah!
Date: 2006-01-30 01:36 pm (UTC)Thanks for your comments about my reviews (though I hesitate to call them reviews, really, since they're so subjective). I guess it's just practice. The more you right, the easier it becomes, and you kind of get used to it. Of course, what you call thorough, I'm beginning to think is just longwinded. They are getting longer!
Gah again!

Re: Gah!
Date: 2006-01-30 07:34 pm (UTC)Are your reviews getting longer? I like them because they are very specific about what you like and don't like, with just enough of the plot without spoilers (unless you give a warning).
I finished The Givenchy Code and The Manolo Matrix this past weekend, and am working on my reviews now. I can't decide which one I liked better, and I'm looking forward to The Prada Paradox. [TGC was good and I'm glad a dug it out of the TBR pile, but it wasn't quite good enough to get my vote for Chick Lit book in the AAR poll...If Andy Warhol Had A Girl Friend still gets my vote :)]
