The recurring arguments in the online romance reading community remind me of the children's game Duck Duck Goose.  You know, everyone sitting calmly with one person circling and circling, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck, duck...then the tap on the head and a shouted "goose" and that seated person is up and running and chasing the original player who hauls ass to get around the circle and seated before  being tagged.

I didn't notice the Ja(y)ne's review of Ben's Wildflower when it was posted, but the F review got someone's attention.  More people posting about how it was mean to tear apart a book that their nice friend worked hard on.  ::eye roll::  In what other professions do people get rewarded for effort rather than accomplishment?  I know I don't -- I'm evaluated on what I get done and how successful it is, not on how hard I tried.  Giving an A for effort stopped being the rule in elementary school.  Are we (readers and authors) all to be transported back?  If so, then I want to go back to Miss Donald's morning kindergarden class at Woodland Acres Elementary.

ETA:  I have GOT to be more careful and proof read.  Sorry about the horrendous grammar.  I think I've fixed the worst of it.

Thanks for the link. As I said at "Dear Author", I depend on individuals and review sites I respect to save me from books I don't want to read.

If this was a "this book suks" review or "the author is dumber than a bag of hammer", I could understand the outrage. But everything posted was about the failings of the books.

The response at KarenS's review was equally divided -- thanks for the heads up vs. how could you be so mean?

Damn, if all it took was effort I'd be rich from all the things I've tried to do. I'm a starter and not a finisher but hey, if it's an A for effort then I'm golden.

I do so love the F reviews - course I don't think I could ever finish a book that would get an F.

No, I'd give up long before the end for an F book. But I do like the reviews. Because maybe the thing that makes it an F for the reviewer would make it an A for me :)

good grief. The outrage is endless, isn't it?

Do these people have nothing better to do with their outrage? Fund a school? Save the rainforest? Fight City Hall?

No. It's all about the author's allegedly hurt feelings. The author who wanted to be published. In public. As in, open to be criticized.

Gah.

Go check out the inspirational, patronizing comment posted by the CEO of RT mag.

Hey, I'm getting the bigger kick out of the fact that the most outrage is directed towards the Dear Author review instead of Karen Scott's. Hers is funnier, though. Does that make a difference? :D

I don't know. But the CEO of RT mag has now written a very condescending comment. Be nice. Empower women. Don't attack people for doing their best. Where was the personal attack? Where? Grrr.
