She loves the guys on Criminal Minds; I have a crush on Archie and the ballistics guy from CSI. Of course, my original geek crush was Ernst from the movie version of The Swiss Family Robinson, as I mentioned last week. I’ve been watching Friday Night Lights. I started watching because I’ve had a crush on Kyle Chandler for ages. Last night, a geek hero (sort of) had screen time. Landry is a geek. No, he actually veers into dork territory. His limited amount of cool comes from the fact that he was friends with the newly elevated quarterback-hero when the qb was an equally nerdy backup with no football future (yes, new qb-hero has stayed friends with him). He has a terrible, terrible crush on a cool girl, who is slowly becoming his friend. He thought he was going on a date with Cool Girl, who sort of arranged it that way (she’s slowly seeing the geek-potential), but it turned into a road trip with her sister and mother. Then qb-hero’s flaky grandmother joined the party. And then he stopped and picked up Cool Girl’s Mortal Enemy because her car broke down on the highway. Because it was the nice thing to do, despite the fact that his hopes for a romantic interlude were drowning in a flood tide of estrogen. I heart Landry now...almost as much as Matt Saracen the geeky quarterback. The bad boys on the team? Meh. Geeks rock.
Of course, I feel vaguely pervy ogling any of the actors playing students, since they're all probably a good 10 years younger than I am. Still...
