The scales of justice

You know, I don't usually plan to be away or out of the office during the week, but I have a stretch next month in which I spend only 2 or 3 days in the office each week between conferences and such. And what came in the mail today? A jury summons....for a date I'll be out of town at an already paid for conference. I'm requesting a postponement, dammit, but I don't know whether they are granted routinely or not.

The city does the one day/one trial rule -- if you get chosen for a trial, you stick with it, however long it may be; otherwise, showing up for the day is sufficient service.

Am I an ideal juror? I think not.

Jury summons, don't you just love those? Well, I know that we can always reschedule it for a different day but we can't change the time. The earlier the better, I say, because the parking is terrible. --Keishon

No, can't change the time here either -- 8:15 is the reporting time across the board. But I live close enough that I can walk or take the bus, no parking necessary. Which is just as well, since the only parking in the area is horrendously expensive and not that close to the courthouse.
