I'm writing off Michelle Pillow.  She's a good writer, I'm sure, but the novellas I've tried haven't really worked for me.  Her story "Taming Him" in the anthology of the same name?  Gratuitous group sex.  No point in the story.  And it wasn't even sexy.  Blech.

So I tried her mer-people book, The Mighty Hunter.  It's the first time that I've ever been sorry that my copy is an ebook -- because I want to throw it hard and hear the satisfying thump as it hits the wall.  But, no, I can't, 'cause that'd damage the reader.  The heroine killed the story for me:  she jumps to conclusions, she's the dumbest smart person I've ever read, and she whines about being a whore because she likes sex with the hero.  Yeah, that last drew my reading to a screeching halt.  DNF.

Off to pick another book off the shelf.  Maybe some nonfiction...

I read a book by her last year. It was the worst book I read all year.

Love your icon :)

This one wasn't the worst of the year (so far) for me, since I've been having a pretty poor reading year so far. But it won't be added to my list of books to keep and re-read, that's for sure.

I find this message very comforting because I like Michelle's stuff and this reminds me that it's all so subjective. No, seriously, it's great to be reminded of that.

So, um, how about the other stories in there?

Loved both the other stories. Including the one by some chick named Summer Devon ;)

Actually, till the ggs, I was loving all three stories and the book was on it's way to an A-grade from me.

Hmm... I've a few books by her, which my database says I liked, and that I have half a dozen other books by her. Therefore it must be Mandy M. Roth I dislike--I like one of the MMs and dislike the other, but I can never remember which one.

Hugs on the bad read.

I don't think I've read Mandy Roth -- what does she write?

Same. Erotic romance.

I think Roth and Pillow have some published ebooks under M&M Presents.

I know she's pubbed at EC, but I think she started out at NCP.

I'll send you a book by Michelle, a fantasy romance from Samhain (King of the Unblessed), if you'd like to give her ooonneeee last chance. And I'll throw in Loup Garou by Mandy as well. Because I'm fun like that :) But if you'd rather not, that's okay too. I'm just putting the offer out there because I do think Michelle is a talented writer, I just think you didnt pick up her best work.

Sure, I'll try her again. I thought the selections may have been not optimal, or maybe she was an It's Not You It's Me author, to borrow KristieJ's phrase. Several people have emailed offline and suggested better Pillow books to try.
