Stephanie Vaughan's Cruel to Be Kind is available at ebookwise. I'm interested, but I'm not buying a copy yet for two reasons. First, I wasn't impressed with the straight romance by Vaughan that I read (Saving Will) in comparison to the M/M romance by her that I've read (Jumping the Fence, Crossing the Line, Off World).

Second, the price -- and this is something that is not specific to Vaughan. For $4.69 (on sale, the original price is $5.75), the reader gets ~34,000 words. To put that in perspective, Harlequin Presents cost $3.60 (on sale, the original price is $4.50) for 50-55,000 words.  So for about the same price, almost twice the book.  I know that you can't really weigh price/value by the word, but I thought ebooks were supposed to be more economical than print books because of lower overhead in production costs.

Semi-related: eBookwise also has a femdom ebook listed among their new releases: The Melinoe Project. Femdom books seem to be pretty rare; in erotic romance, women tend to be subs.

CTBK is wonderful...until the end. The tension between the characters is smoking, the sex is hothothot, but the end is just kinda....meh. I don't like many of Steph's endings. The common review comment is always "Wanted More," and that's triply true of CTBK. Huge tension set up, potential for stunning reconciliation and then....they got to San Francisco and it's so weird.

Anyway, if that helps at all, there you go. I loved it, until she copped out in the end, but I find she tends to do that.

And thanks for the other rec--I'll certainly check it out, although it doesn't look at all like a romance. More a stroke book, but those have their places too, no?

But of course! ;)

I've put CTBK on my wishlist, but I'm not buying it yet. I went to Borders the other day and bought several books by new-to-me authors in an effort to break out of my reading slump, and I am not letting myself buy any more books until I've read that last bunch.

It's very frustrating to see high ebook prices when you don't really own anything.
