Go check out KristieJ's ode to Western set historicals at Access Romance's Readers Gab.

I feel vaguely guilty for avoiding Westerns now. I do look for historicals set outside of Regency England, but tend to skip Westerns unless they come very Very VERY highly recommended.

I hated Westerns, even back during my I Only Read Historical Romances days.

I was never a particular fan of Westerns, mostly because the whole wagon-train, Laura Ingalls thing never appealed. Plus, having lived on a working farm (tho' I wasn't the one doing the work), ranching just isn't romance material for me. It's hard and exhausting and often smelly.

Well, I'm a citygirl at heart, and life on the frontier? It's not a fantasy, it's a nightmare! LOL.

LOL - I also meant all kinds of other settings too outside of England. Westerns are my particular loss these days, but I'd also love to see books written in other European countries - they do exist despite what publishers seem to think *g*. And I also love Colonial books. There's just something about a new and young country that seems so romantic. So I wasn't referring to just the dusty old Western in the desert *chuckle*.

I know what you mean, KristieJ. I would love to read romances set in Central America during the 18th and 19th centuries, but that seems to be a setting that no one is interested in. And more in colonial Australia and New Zealand. And imperial Russia.
