I read Patricia Briggs' Moon Called over the weekend and began the second book in that series, Blood Bound, this morning. Objectively speaking, they are very well written books. Interesting heroine; set in a "normal" paranormal world, but with its own twists to the were/vamp/witch mythology. Good pacing. Plot-wise, Briggs had a Scooby Doo moment (the villain explained everything), which I hate in fiction. If the mystery or suspense is set up right and reveled correctly, no Scooby moment is needed IMO. But in the back of my mind, I'm reminded of the Southern Vampire series, and of early Anita Blake Vampire Hunter. And I'm thinking, do I really want to add another paranormal series (romance or fantasy with a romantic thread) to my list of ongoing series? I don't think so. I don't want to say that I'm bored by the book, because it held my reading attention and was a good book. The ennui is coming from me, not from the book. After I put the book down, I stopped thinking about or caring about the characters, unlike other series, such as the In Death series. I think I'm just paranormaled out and need to put them on hiatus.

I don't know if I'm paranormaled out because I really want to read Butch's book by J.R. Ward or if I just don't want to read anything with drama. After reading Stupid and Contagious all I want to do is sit and laugh - I don't think my TBR pile has that category ;)

I'm feeling the same way -- I had the same reaction to Jennifer Armintrout last week. I loved Moon Called when I read it last year, so I will continue with the series -- but when I'm in the mood again.
