Ooookay, then, energy company, what's up?

My living room light blinked yesterday. At first I thought the bulb was about to go, so I didn't worry. But then it happened again to another overhead light fixture. Picture me freaking out. My house and its wiring are both old and creaky, so I was imagining a wiring problem. Except the blink had nothing to do with adding appliances -- I was sitting in the chair reading and hadn't turned anything on or off, other than the lights. So I planned on calling an electrician first thing Monday morning to get it checked out. Except I ran into my neighbor yesterday afternoon, who mentioned that his lights blinked, as did another neighbor's. All of our wiring is independent, so that can't be the problem. Our power source is mutual, though: we all hook into the same utility pole in the back alley. So instead of calling the electrician, I'm calling the power company. It's still disturbing, but not quite as frightening for my cache of home repair savings.
