Proofreading error? or marketing gimic?
Jan. 14th, 2006 02:10 pmOne of my pet peeves is the lack of editing and spellchecking that seems to be running rampant in Balmer signage. I don't have that much room to talk, because I've caught typos in my journal entries long after they were posted. I generally go back and fix them, but still, I know no one is perfect. But if you are a store owner and you are paying money for signage, don't you proofread carefully? Apparently not, because there is a corner store in my neighborhood that sells grocery's (not groceries) and soda's (not sodas). It makes me cringe every time I walk by the storefront.
Yesterday a new sale placard went up on the house next door. It's been for sale since August, with a banner hanging from the second floor windows. But the banner keeps getting ripped off during high winds...and the aerodynamics of my street are kind of funky due to the wind coming off the water and the height of the new buildings and demolition of old buildings, etc. Anyway, this sale sign reads "Remax sails". Error? Or cutesy word play because the Remax advertising image is a hot air balloon? I'm assuming it was intentional...but it looks kind of lame to me. Reminder to self: if I ever sell my house, don't use Remax, because I won't be able to stand the sign they put in the window.
Coming soon: my review of Imaginary Men.
