Why, SimonSays?
Jan. 21st, 2007 07:12 pmIs there a reason that books 1 and 5 of a series are available as e-books...but none of the others?
The background: I've been reading Meg Cabot's 1-800-Where-R-U YA series. I found the first book, When Lightning Strikes, in ebook format while browsing for something new several months ago. The idea of it tickled my fancy: a teenager who is struck by lightning and as a result is suddenly able to locate lost children. Cool. It was only after I purchased it that I realized it was written by Cabot -- it was sold under her pseudonym Jenny Carroll, which I'm not sure she uses anymore. Anyway, I liked Cabot's Mediator books, another paranormal YA series, and this seemed similar so I loaded in on my ebookwise. And I liked it. WLS ended on a note that indicated that other books were to follow. And they did, between 2001 and 2005, but none were available at Simon & Schuster or at my library or local bookstores. Early this month I received an email alert that a new book was being released: Missing You...which is also available in ebook format. And the entire series is being reissued, all under the name of Meg Cabot, all with new covers. Except the three intervening books are not available as ebooks! What? Why release the first and the fifth in that format, but not the others?
I've found copies of the second and third books, so I'm just missing the fourth. It is driving me crazy that I have the fifth book but can't read it yet. Well, I could, but I really prefer to read series in order. You never know what you'll miss if you skip books.
So, SimonSays, SimonPulse, Simon & Schuster, what's the e-publishing plan? Inquiring minds want to know! Yes, I emailed SimonSays and asked.
