More photos, this time of the gingerbread efforts over the holiday.

Again, apologies for the photo quality.

I have a bunch more photos of the construction process, but they all include The Chemist and The Biochemist, and I don't want to post current photos of them without their permission...embarrassing childhood photos, of course, are exempt from this courtesy.

Completed house.

House condemned by Houston Housing Authority after being struck by Hurricane Porkie Pig.

The gingerbread families. Including the conjoined gingerchildren, a po'd mom and an anatomically correct dad. The Biochemist and I were icing our ginger-people when we heard snickering. Guess which one is the handiwork of The Chemist :)

Heinousness

People who live in glass houses should not throw heinous stones. Nor should they return books they dislike to bookstores, nor should they post pictures of inadequate, poorly constructed heinous, lopsided gingerbread houses on the internet.
Did that make you mad?
Remember you are not perfect. No one is. When you bash someone's ability, it just shows how small you are.
Go back and read your latest comments about the AAR booklist. Consider how you might feel should someone broadcast your lack of gingerbread-house making talent- or photography skills, or something you may be good at for that matter, all over the internet.
I hope you do something exceeding well, something that no one can criticize. I hope too that you are not a baker by trade, nor a photographer.
Sincerely angered by your comments,
Julia Daniels
(a not so perfect writer)

Ms. Daniels,

No, your opinion did not make me mad. You are entitled to it. I do some things exceedingly well; I do others (including photography and baking) rather poorly. I imagine most people have corresponding strengths and weaknesses. And when I posted my photos on the 'Net, where anyone can view them if they happen across my blog, I opened myself up to your criticism, comments, etc. By publishing a book, an author does the same thing.

Why does my negative opinion anger you? It is an opinion only, to which I am entitled. Would you be less angry if I detailed more specifically what I did not care for in the book?

Curiously,
~jmc

Whoa.

What's the beef?

I'm not used to seeing quite this much venom. I actually liked the gingerbread men. There. I stated my opinion on someone else's blog.

I feel so brave. And somehow so dirty.

Suisan,

The gingerbread men were surprisingly easy to make -- I always thought it was more work to make gingerbread from scratch. Who knew?

Wait just a minute. I went back and read the post third in line from this one, where JMC says that she won't be buying a book.

THAT'S what caused this comment?

Really?

This is going down in my book as one of the weirder examples of "circle the wagons" and attack to show how very hurtful you non-professional bloggers are, you big meanies with no credentials to allow you to review books. Or even discuss them for that matter. Or even say that one's not going in the shopping basket.

Y'all's evol and you're causing the end of the world as we know it. Shames upon you, JMC. Shames.

By the way, I made a perfectly lovely apple crisp today which was perfect in every little way. Crisp and sweet and warm. Mmm.

Sincerely happy to be me,

Suisan

I should be tarred and feathered for being so rude as to post my opinion on my own blog. I am huddled at my desk, too shamed and battered to set fingers to keyboard to write another review, er, opinion post of any kind that is less than gushing about a book. :sigh: It was a throw away comment, and I'm surprised by the response. The author, though, was polite.

Mmmm, apple crisp. Did you eat it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream? Or maybe cinnamon? Mmmmm.

I forgot to buy the vanilla ice cream. Bad Mommy.

But somehow we suffered through eating it fresh out of the oven. It was warm and crispy.

(I had to restrain myself from eating it for breakfast. Bad Mommy. Bad Mommy.)

It's probably not too late -- there were gingerbread kits available for 70% off at the grocery store the other day. You too can be a gingerbread construction supervisor :p. I thought the entertainment alone was worth the price of the kit. The scratch gingerbread tasted better, though.

Nutters?

Being the daft person I am I thought the Anon post was from the BioChemist mocking you for daring to impunge his gingerbread men so imagine my surprise when I saw the name at the bottom.

Sorry that you have been found by a bunch of fan-girls ready to tear you apart. Like you said, Rowena Cherry was much more gracious. Us regular readers will just ignore the uh, 'others'

I think the Biochemist is hilarious but since I won't eat gingerbread, I never make it or try and make houses. I have done it with my Godkids and I wouldn't eat the stuff if you paid me - I saw where their tiny mitts were at all times - I ate the candy out of the bag. Bad Aunt Cindy ;)

I'd've eaten the candy out of the bag if there had been green gumdrops. My favorite. But the smarties and black gumdrops? Nah. And I seldom make cookies at home...if I do, they are oatmeal chip or oatmeal pecan. The Chemist and The Biochemist are foodies, though, baked goods are done from scratch in their home. Which is lovely for when I visit :)
