Dec. 29th, 2006 08:25 amI meant to post my holiday loot here...except for the first time in forever, I had no book-related loot. Nope. Nada. Niente. Not even an B&N gift card. I gave a couple of books and they were happily received: Gaiman's Fragile Things and NF The Omnivore's Dilemma.
I did receive (and this is NOT a complaint) two gift cards to The Home Despot. So I now have no excuse not to paint the kitchen cabinets and the living room ceiling. The cabinets are a hangover from the October mini reno. I've been plastering them with menus, calendars, cards, reminders, etc., random pieces of paper that are semi-important enough that they belong at eye level, rather than jumbled with the pile o' stuff on the table and my desk. The living room ceiling? Um, it bears a huge water stain that I caused while suffering from a moment (well, more like a couple of hours) of stupidity this past summer.
Also received a variety of good smelling lotions and bath stuff (cucumber melon, citrus, vanilla). Is that a hint that I smell, guys? A beautiful fluted glass bowl for my desk. A gorgeous, gorgeous silk scarf in purple and green from The Biochemist. I'm a little surprised that the scarf made it under the tree for me -- it would not look out of place in The Biochemist's wardrobe, since she has adored purple since childhood.
I went to pick up my photos last night so I could bore any random blog-readers with photos of the gingerbread attempts, only to learn that the sign that says 24 hour photos really means two or three days. Yeah, not taking film there ever again.
I'm looking over my year in reading and have been surprised by a couple of things. I'll probably post about that over the weekend, or maybe Monday when I eventually crawl out of bed to welcome the new year. Fiddled with the reading spreadsheet that I keep, courtesy of Rosario. Messed it up, but fortunately had saved the original and only messed up a copy. I was going to email and ask for help, but Ro has posted the '07 version. Woo hoo!
I've been reading, I just don't have much to say right now. There is a least one review percolating in the back of my mind, but I haven't managed to spit it out onto the page. Not sure why.

And did you put in a link to the thing about how you're just not qualified to have a Real Opinion? (mentioned in the Monica review)
