Gingerbread

jmc_bksH/T to Balls & Walnuts, who pointed out that today is Global Orgasm Day. I shared this information with my companions today, who were suitably entertained by the idea.
More on the food front: lunch at Japaneiro's. Chef's Nirvana -- sushi rolls and sashimi; edamame; avocado soup (mmmmm!); mojito. Checked World Markets for Tim-Tams. Nope. But they had some other appropriate candy and I bought a bunch to put in the stockings: licorice, marzipan, dark chocolate. Followed by a stop at HEB for lamb for the holiday dinner and the ingredients for gingerbread. The Biochemist needed ingredients for gingerbread from scratch (she wants to make them and write "Bite me!" on them), and The Chemist and I got a kit to make a gingerbread house.
Also went to Half Price Books, where I found two HTF Sarah Bird books, along with a copy of Elizabeth Young's A Girl's Best Friend and a couple of other trade paperbacks.
Okay, the gingerbread. The Biochemist's dough is happily chilling in the fridge. Our gingerbread house is somewhat messy, and would probably collapse under a brisk wind. The icing hardened too fast, even with extra water in the mix. And the directions listed the larger rectangles as the walls, but the larger ones were actually the roof panels. :shrug: We got our money's worth out of it, if only for the entertainment of the piping bag, which ended up splitting -- the first split worked much better than the plastic tip provided for squeezing out rows of icing. I took a couple of pics of the masterpiece, which I'll post eventually.
I think we are going to watch football and drink martinis, so I'll type more later. Or not -- it isn't safe for me to drink and type. Who knows what I might write?
