Green ginger tea

I've been stopping at That Coffee Place a lot lately, usually during off-peak times, and getting a grande green ginger tea. Mmm. But, of course, it'd be more economical to just buy a box of the tea bags. It was harder than I expected to find, mostly because every time I asked, they were out of stock or had only open containers, no unbroken seals. But I have my own box now. Except it just doesn't taste the same. It's all in my head, I know. Hot water, tea bag. Nothing different. But I'm afraid I've been brainwashed into needing the white hot cup and the cardboard cup holder.

Could it be that your water's not filtered but That Coffee Place's is? I only use filtered water to make tea, and it does make a difference. Also, you might ask TCP what temperature their hot water for tea is. Ideally, it should be around 175F for green tea, or if you want to do rule of thumb, just below boiling when it starts to make a little noise in the tea kettle.

Good luck! I always make a pot of Moroccan Mint green tea for lunch (loose, in a large infuser and a pre-warmed china pot, of course), so I know what it's like to feel only a certain flavor will give you the same lift.

boil chunks of fresh ginger with a touch of sugar. use that water for regular tea. It so rocks that you'll never go back.

That sounds delicious. And doable at home, but not at work, where I consume much, much tea.

My water at home is definitely not filtered...so I use bottled stuff for tea. But the water at work is the same city water as Starbucks. But we probably do have different filtration systems. When we moved into the new building, the safety features that were touted included the triple filtration system. Which doesn't matter to most people, who still participate in "water clubs" with the monthly cooler deliveries from Deer Park.

175F? Can do at home. At the office, it's the microwave all the way, then pouring the steaming water into a hot cup.

:sigh: So maybe I'll alternate between making my own and still occasionally going to Starbucks.
