Solid Soul by Brenda Jackson
Aug. 26th, 2006 11:08 amOkay, after reading a blog entry by Monica Jackson about black romance, I picked up a Kimani Press book at the library. My usual branch doesn't break out romance by subgenre, other than categories, so I had to hunt for black romance. Finally, the librarian took pity on me and asked what I was looking for, then led me to an end cap next to the anime end cap. Duh, I saw the anime sign and assumed both endcaps were anime. My pick was Brenda Jackson's Solid Soul.
I'm almost finished, and I'll probably post a review later today or tomorrow.
I've never read a Kimani Press book before, but I'm wondering about production quality. I've noticed poor copy-editing or type-setting. I keep coming across words in the middle of the page with hyphens that do not belong. Stuff like "remem-ber".
Edited to add: When going through my reading spreadsheet, I found that I tried a book by Brenda Jackson earlier this year -- The Playas Handbook. The title was really distracting -- playa means beach or shore, according to a Spanish lesson that is etched on my brain. A beach handbook? No. It was a DNF, though, because I thought the hero and his friends were jerks, and didn't care enough to spend my precious reading time on them.
