Woo hoo! Picked these up at the library this evening:

Chains of Folly by Roberta Gellis. The fourth (fifth?) Madalene la Batarde medieval mystery. A hardback, but I would've shelled out for it. Except I couldn't find it at cover price anywhere -- it was going for more than the cover price on Amazon.

The Flamenco School by Sarah Bird.

Secret Society Girl by Diana Peterfreund. I've been hearing good buzz about this debut novel. But since it was a debut and a hardback, it was verbotten.

Malinche by Laura Esquivel. Malinalli/Malitzin/Malinche/Dona Marina is a fascinating historical figure.

Books I bought:

The Feathered Serpent by Colin Falconer. Another version of Malinche's story.

Dark Horse by Patricia Simpson

The Halo Effect by M.J. Rose

I enjoyed The Halo Effect, but Rose isn't someone I can glom. I do plan to read her other books--I've a copy of her Spice book Lying In Bed--though.

I've never read M.J. Rose before, but the backblurb sounded interesting. We'll see. I must stop buying books at the library, because my TBR pile is out of control. But I can't resist the lure of 4 books for $1.

The Gellis title had a very short print-run. In fact, after a few days it was out of stock at B&N so I expect the price for this one to jump. I haven't read it yet. Hideous cover but I lurve this series.

Sarah Bird?

Is this the Sarah Bird who wrote The Boyfriend School? And if so, are these books related?

Yes, same author. I don't think the books are related -- The Flamenco Academy (sorry, listed incorrectly in my post) blurb information doesn't have anything in common with The Boyfriend School's description.

The cover art for TFA is gorgeous -- woman in a beautiful red flamenco dress, with her arm cocked (in a dance position?).

I like the series a lot, more than her more-popular Roselynde series even.

The cover is not great -- I like the idea of it, a wood cut or stamp, like an old manuscript, but the artwork itself is unattractive.
