Eureka!

While reading Crazy Love, I kept thinking that the fluorescent leeches and butterflies reminded me of something. Then this morning as I was watching the Early Show, I saw it: the Lunesta commercial with the glow-in-the-dark butterflies! After watching that thing flutter around the screen, I am convinced that over the counter (I think) sleep medication was the inspiration for Dylan's hallucinations.

Congress is thinking about giving itself a raise again. To $168,500? When the median American income is somewhere around $50,000 that seems ridiculous. I'm not interested in the excuse that it is expensive to live in DC -- millions of people in the metro area are scrapping by on considerably less. How can any Congress person claim to live like an "average" American when they make three times the average American's salary? If they are giving themselves a raise, shouldn't they be thinking about giving minimum wage earners a raise too? The minimum wage has not been increased since 1997; since 1997, Congressional salaries have increased by $31,000. Who needs a raise more, hmmm?

They get free medical care, too.

I've read that before

But forgot to mention it. Plus, I'm sure they get all kinds of perks that I wouldn't know how to value but which make their income exceed the amount that appears on their W-2s.
