I had a flash of inspiration -- an idea for AAR's purple prose parody. I've never written anything for it before, but thought I'd give it a try. But now that I have the idea, I'm not sure what to do. My writing is work-related, and those bulletins, letters, instructions, etc. aren't exactly creative fiction ;). I have no Muse and I'm floundering about what to do with my idea now.

Please do - because I did a very silly one last night, as I thought it was a shame no-one was taking part, and I'd had a glass of wine, & it all seemed a good idea at the time. Seems less of a brainwave now. I was somewhat hampered by the fact I tend to skip sex scenes, so I'm not good at purple prose, and couldn't remember any classic novels well enough to write a pastiche of them. So not that great an entry, and I'd be grateful to have it buried by other people's entries.

To go back a blog topic, I've been reading 'My sister's keeper' by Jodi Picoult today. I've heard the author's name mentioned, but have never got round to reading her, so when my fourteen year old got the book out of the school library I asked if I could borrow it before she returned it. At about eleven last night, she flounced into the room, white-faced and teary, and thrust the book at me saying - 'It's evil, don't read it.'
The story is about a thirteen year old, who was conceived as a donor for her seriously ill sister, and who, at the point the book commences, is suing her parents to stop them using her further in her sister's treatment. I've been reading it every chance I got today, and it absolutely made me cry. It's very good - there aren't any villains, just the situation which causes this massive fault line through the family. I'd almost defy you to read it without tears. [Though fair warning, I see why my daughter found it 'evil'. Not an entirely HEA.]

That's Butt In Chair, Hands on Keyboard--there are a few variations of this.

You'll get it down in no time at all, JM!
