I've printed the results, along with today's At the Back Fence column and will read them at lunchtime. The most noticable thing for me is the repeated winning of Loretta Chase's Mr. Impossible, which I found to be an okay read, but not a keeper or particularly outstanding. Her Lord of Scoundrels seems also to be highly regarded; when I bought a used copy to see what the hype was about, I was pretty disappointed. I'm wondering if maybe Ms. Chase's writing style is just not to my taste. Since I'm generally disinclined toward European Historicals to begin with, that would explain why I've missed the fan-boat for her work.

Tomorrow I'll post on the ATBF board comparing my votes to the winners and losers...I know I saved a copy of my ballot, now I just have to find it :)

Thank god I'm not the only one.

I thought Lord of Scoundrels was fun and all, but everyone acts like it's Absolute Genius. And I found Mr. Impossible to be pretty forgettable (didn't even finish it) while it gets rave reviews from the rest of the world. I found both to be somewhat amusing in places, but not the comedic brilliance that others seem to find.

And I can't stand her writing style. Drives me batty. I blogged about it some long ago SBD ummm, here (http://sum-of-me.blogspot.com/2005/07/i-have-headache.html). I think that's the biggest obstacle to my liking her work - if I hate the prose, there's no way I can like the rest of it.

I loved Mr. Impossible. But then again, it was my first Chase and I was on an Egypt kick, thanks to having seen The Mummy Returns the night before I started reading it.

I'll have to go check out their poll results.

I don't really care for Loretta Chase either. I've read Lord of Scoundrels and found it OK read but nothing great. So, your not alone in that regard.

Can't wait to read your comparison. I'm writing my blog post about just that right now.

Rosario, Loretta Chase fangirl ;-)

I thought Mr I. was all right--better than Miss W. but not as fun as LOS . I actually found the Miss/Mr series (especially Miss W) a return to her previous regency historical voice -- Sandalwood Princess, etc, than a continuation of the voice and style she wrote with in LOS, my fave of her books and pretty much the only one I'd keep in a pinch. :)
