The setting of this book really appealed to me -- sometime in the late 21st or early 22nd century, after the apocalypse (nuclear).  As I read, the scenes in my head were a combination of Mad Max, The Matrix and Firefly/Serenity.  The adventure was excellent -- well paced and designed, I thought.  The relationship between Raina and Wizard worked best for me before they fell into bed.  Kenin did too good a job convincing me that he was an automaton; in my head, he was a better looking version of Lt. Cmdr. Data.  Which is to say, he had a lot of comedic, drama and action potential, but not so much romance potential in my head.  (Come on, you know that Picard was the draw to ST:TNG, right?)

Still, I liked it enough that I'm willing to check out Kenin's next book, Hidden, which I assume will be about Wizard's sister, Tatiana.

I broke down and bought this after seeing that PW gave it a starred review. I really like the covers on these books but, I am hesitant to the line, for some reason. --Keishon

The cover art caught my eye -- it seemed different in style and in content. How many romance novels have big rigs or snowmobiles on their covers? But the backblurb was the reason I borrowed it from the library. I haven't felt compelled to try any of the other Shomi books yet.
