July's reading was better than June's, I think.
1. The Roman’s Virgin Mistress by Michelle Styles. Reviewed here. B
2. The Bermudez Triangle by Maureen Johnson. YA. B
3. Exit Strategy by Kelley Armstrong. Suspense. Reviewed here. A
4. The Sharing Knife: Beguilement by Lois McMaster Bujold. Fantasy. Reread. A
5. Stray by Rachel Vincent. Urban fantasy. Mentioned here.
6. The Sharing Knife: Legacy by Lois McMaster Bujold. Fantasy. Mentioned here. A-/B+
7. Baghdad Burning by Riverbend. NF. A
8. Bed of Spices by Barbara Samuel. Historical. DNF
9. A Good Ghoul’s Guide to Getting Even by Julie Kenner. YA paranormal. C (It’s not fair of me to compare such different books based simply on the YA audience, but in retrospect, this book fares even worse in comparison to the excellent Adios to My Old Life.)
10. Blue Skies by Adrienne Byrd. Military romance; category; black romance. C+
11. Adios to My Old Life by Caridad Ferrer. YA. Reviewed here. A-
12. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. YA urban fantasy. B+
13. The MacGregors: Robert & Cybill by Nora Roberts. Category; reissue; reread. C
14. Murder in the North End by P.B. Ryan. Historical mystery. B
15. Dirty by Megan Hart. Women’s fiction; erotica. Mentioned here. C
16. The Billionaire Next Door by Jessica Bird. Category. Mentioned here. C
17. Up Close and Dangerous by Linda Howard. Adventure. C This book didn’t work for me at all as a romance and not well at all as suspense. It was more a survival guide.
18. Soul Song by Marjorie Liu. Urban fantasy. B+
I read in one of the reviews of The Bourne Ultimatum that Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are trying to work together on the filming of the drama Imperial Life in the Emerald City. How are they (or Greengrass, if Damon has a conflict) going to turn that book into a drama? I'm curious. Sign me up as a potential viewer.
I'm convinced that UPS delivery is contrary just for the fun of it. Normally when I order something that will be delivered in 2-3 business days, it takes 3 or more because of signing requirements or whatever. On Tuesday afternoon I ordered a baby shower gift to be delivered at the home of the parents to be. (A diaper genie and refills. What the hell is a diaper genie? Wait, never mind. I probably don't need to know.) The shower was last night, so I thought that the 2-3 day delivery status meant it would be delivered either on Thursdays or Friday. Nope. Delivered Wednesday evening. I received a call yesterday just before I left the office on the way to the shower thanking me. How sweet, how did you know where we're registered? Uh, I totally lied about it and hoped she wouldn't guess about the shower. Apparently my combination of fibs and her pregnancy brain (her term for the monumental forgetfulness she's been experiencing) worked just fine and she was quite surprised by the shower. :sigh of relief:
