There has been a documented (but isolated) case of the Marburg virus in Uganda; in July, a miner died of the hemorrhagic fever, which is related to Ebola. He's thought to have caught it from bats, which populate the Kitaka mine. Book recs on epidemiology: The Hot Zone and The Coming Plague.

Barack Obama was charming and well-spoken on The Daily Show on Wednesday (caught the repeat last night) but I'm still not sold on him.

Have you heard of Glory Foods, the Leader in Seasoned Southern Style foods? I discovered their frozen Savory Singles at the grocery store last night and am now a fan of their Southern Vegetable Casserole. [I should know better than to grocery shop on an empty stomach.]

A record number of people left the UK last year, according to BBC News. Where did they go?

I love my friends, but find planning outings for more than two people to be frustrating; getting our schedules and tastes to align is not always easy. My original plan for Monday was to take the train to the 30th St. Station, walk over to the Franklin Institute to see the Tut exhibit, then do a variety of touristy things, including going to Reading Terminal and maybe South Street (I'm told that I must eat a proper steak & cheese sandwich at Jim's). Now that I've got more company than just my shadow and my imagination, the plans are changing. I'm sure I'll enjoy the day...I'm just a little disappointed that I won't be able to check out the restaurant that one of my pals in the Philly office recommended, Buddakan, because it is not to D's taste.

Still....does the degree of excitement I feel about seeing the Tut exhibit mean I'm a total dork? I'm afraid it may. So not only am I a misanthrope, I'm a nerdy one.
