Just because
Feb. 10th, 2007 03:29 pmThe Biochemist and The Chemist are taking a conversational Spanish class. Every so often I get an email asking why something is done a certain way. And I have to stop and think, because it just is that way. Why drop pronouns? Why use an indirect object pronoun and a proper name? 'Cause. You just do.
On the language theme, we started verbs in my Arabic class this week. The first semester was all about nominative sentences, no verbs required. The verbs conjugate with prefixes and suffixes in the present tense. Must just memorize these by rote.
I spent all of my remaining book money for the month (budgeted -- I could spend more, but I'm trying to be frugal) on two -- not one, but two -- dictionaries for class. No new storybooks for me this weekend. Which is just as well, since I've got a bazillion books waiting to be read already.
