May. 14th, 2006 09:00 pmBelated Happy Mother's Day to any moms who happen to bloghop this way!
My mom received calls, gifts and visits from all of her kids, then went over to her mother's to prepare for a dinner/picnic/party. She wasn't thrilled with the idea (and neither was I) but Aunt D and Uncle B wanted to have a party because what if Grandmom isn't around next year? Full disclosure, so you don't think we are party poopers -- Mother's Day has not been a happy holiday for our family in the past few years. My grandfather (Mommom's husband) died on MD three years ago, and my aunt (Mommom's daughter) died last year. Plus B&D are disorganized and lack follow-through: they announce that they are planning a party and invite people, then forget to get propane for the grill or food for the guests, etc. Mom ends up having to do all of the work.
Got home from the party in time to catch the finale of The West Wing. Meh. Not impressed. And what were the producers thinking with the closing shot of Air Force One flying over a large body of water as it approached landing in New Hampshire? I'm pretty sure that there are no oceans or Great Lakes in the flight plan from DC to New Hampshire. I'm going to have to check out flight maps, because otherwise, a detail like that will drive me crazy.
ETA: I've learned that it's normal for flights in the Mid-Atlantic and New England to swing out over the Atlantic or westward, in order to avoid flight congestion between DC to Boston. So I stand corrected and apologize for bitching about the last shot of TWW.
