Many thanks to Jay and Sybil, who mentioned PaperbackSwap in the comments a couple of weeks ago. I registered last week and listed about 20 books that I want to be rid of, along with a list of harder to find books that I'd like to read. I would much prefer to send books to people who want them than to donate them to the library or Good Will, where they may be read or they may just gather dust. I've now mailed 8 books, with one more to go tomorrow, and three new to me books are on their way. Yay! Thank you, ladies!

A few months ago I created a list of book recommendations for my friends M & S. I had earlier done a list (without romance recommendations and with more non-fiction) for SY, which I attached to the list for M&S. Their list took into consideration their preferences. S likes historicals. M likes suspense. At dinner the other night, I learned that all three of them have passed my reading lists on to other people. Which makes me feel kinda good, because they appreciate the work I put into creating their lists and they respect my opinion and the recommendations. Plus, book pimping remotely! To strangers, no less! Yay for me! On the other hand, the customized list is now floating around, being passed to people to whom the recommendations are not necessarily appropriate. So somebody who hates the mere mention of time travel as a fictional construct may pick up Outlander (on the list despite my general indifference to the book, b/c I felt obliged to mention some books that were not to my taste but which others love) and think, "WTF? Who is this J. who recommended this dreck?!? What was M thinking, to forward this list to me? It's awful!" Or someone else who likes romantic suspense but not gay romance will pick up Hot Target and be totally turned off by Jules Cassidy.

No SBD for me yesterday. Just wasn't happening. I'm pretty much incapable of coherent bitching (unless it is about my job) right now. [Construction. House guest. Taxi service. Schedule thrown out of whack due to commute modification.] Maybe next week.
