More bracketology

First, check it out before it disappears! I'm tied for 7th in the DABWAHA tournament.

Next, check out the Bracket of Evil. Who to vote for next?

Thirdly, reading and watching Generation Kill is doing terrible things to my blood pressure and my opinion of the American military as an institution.

And lastly, I'm in a horrendous reading slump. A Conspiracy of Kings? Meh, set aside after a chapter. The Redbreast? Same. Scoundrel's Kiss? Made it to three chapters, but also set aside. I'm not sure what to try next.

Hi! Have you read the books preceding A Conspiracy of Kings? I am such a fan of Turner's work but was definitely disappointed in the latest installment. It's possible if I didn't have such high expectations for her in the first place that I wouldn't have been so disappointed but I felt like it was a step down in every way from the rest of the series.

I have read the other Thief books. I enjoyed the Queen and King, but must admit that The Thief is still my favorite of the series. Have not made it past the first few chapters of A Conspiracy of Kings. I've been in a reading slump -- nothing appeals -- so I blame the lack of progress on my mood rather than the book. Like you, I have very high expectations of the book, perhaps unreasonably so since I know that Gen is not going to be the narrator.

The Queen remains my favorite. :) You may even end up being more disappointed than me because I don't really care who the narrator is so that part of the book didn't phase me a bit but I still thought it wasn't nearly as good as the others. My neighbor just finished it though and she said even though she missed Gen she still really liked it.

Good luck with your slump! I know exactly what you mean. When in similar slumps I've run through the first chapter of something like 8 books before getting to the one that matches my mood.
