Haunted?
Over the weekend I read the article about Tio Pepe's in this month's Baltimore magazine. It reminded me that I haven't been in there in a while and that maybe it's time to make reservations. After all, it's a Balmer restaurant landmark (previously blogged about here).
The article got me thinking about a bygone Balmer culinary favorite: Haussner's (scroll down to the Haussner's photos for some old, old photos. After the family closed its doors, the art collection was auctioned via Sotheby's (or maybe Christie's), and the building was to be used by a culinary college. Was it? I don't know. And for a while it was the site of a Houston's steak house. But it has been vacant for at least a year now. I wonder sometimes if the premises are haunted by diners and cooks and the memories of meals consumed, and whether any restaurant will be successful there now.
