Clinton & Obama, '08

Is America too racist to elect Barack Obama president? Too sexist to elect Hillary Clinton? Go check out Benjamin Wallace-Wells's piece for Outlook in today's Post.

I will still and forever (until she's elected as such) claim that HRC is unelectable as president, not because of her gender, but because she's a lightening rod for conservatives because of her connection to that most hated of individuals, Bill Clinton. They despise him with the kind of viturperative (sp?) hatred that liberals reserve for GWBush, and I don't think she'll be able to get past that. Give us a woman who ISN'T connected to that, and she might have a chance. I think Obama has more of a chance than either HRC or theoretical woman. JMHO.

HRC

I'm not ready to declare HRC unelectable, but I do think she has a huge amount of baggage weighing her down in the eyes of the American voter.

But I wonder: if I close my eyes and strip away gender, does it make a difference? Does the baggage become less heavy?
