The Quirina book might be pretty good. It's just that Lydia did something utterly stupid (I thought) in the very beginning, and I couldn't get past it.

Let's see, a Laura Resnick recommendation. Well, I've heard good things about her Luna release, Disappearing Nightly, but I haven't read it yet. I think there was a review posted at DearAuthor.com. In terms of fantasy, I liked her ebook of story stories best (titled simply Volume One, and still available on Amazon, I think). She also writes/wrote romance under the pen name Laura Leone. LL's Fallen From Grace was very good, but controversial when it was released a couple of years ago. She also wrote a nonfiction book that I've been looking for about her trip across Africa.
