The people I lend books to have OCD or are my brother, so I get them back in the same condition and on time (except with the brother who forgets where he put them - sigh). I love giving them to the brother though because he will tell me that he hated a book, heh ("This sucked!". It's fun to argue.

I will NOT lend my DVDs to a certain person who returned a DVD that was in brand new condition in a condition so shocking I couldn't even speak.
