Books are winging their way to my house

People are bugfuck crazy sometimes.  Is there a full moon?  Or have people gone off their meds?

I picked up a copy of Kalen Hughes' debut, Lord Sin.  As I've mentioned (ad nauseum), I'm not a big historical fan, but I appreciate Hughes' thoughtful comments at SBTB, so I picked up a copy when I saw it.  And the bargain price $3.99 (or $4.99?) didn't hurt either.

And my copies of No Humans Involved (Kelley Armstrong) and The Crusades Through Arab Eyes (Amin Maalouf) are on their way to me.

why yes, people are bugfuck crazy tonight.

The thing that finally put a bee up my butt (after reading post after post from thoroughly bee butted people) was the response from Carol Stacy to Lauren B. about RT. http://sensualwriter.blogspot.com/2007/05/rthyatt-author-targeted.html

When I first read CS's note, I thought it was kinda annoying. The more I think about it, the more steam-worthy it seemed. The whole "For the record" format is enough to make anyone bugfucking crazy. Then there's the we'll take your money for advertising and the conference, but don't expect us to treat you well aspect. Now I'm wondering if Hyatt really was the culprit.

Bah, and I like the damn magazine and wanted to go to the conference. sigh.

The "For the Record" format is patronizing, I think. And I agree, the "we'll take your money but mistreat you" attitude bothers me. It was interesting to me that Stacy wrote that the print readers aren't interested in M/M, while later posters pointed out that statement is not consistent with the polling done by RT itself with respect to M/M and F/F romance.

I'm so glad to hear someone else say this! I mean, it's one thing to get "your side" out there, but that reply of CS's seemed to take a very snippy tone. And I'm sure the Hyatt has considerable blame in this fiasco.
