Upcoming books

jmc_bksI was procrastinating, and checking out the list of upcoming books for January & February via AAR.
Meg Cabot's 2nd Heather Well's mystery-lite tpb is listed as a January release...but it has been out since November, I think. Wonder if it was originally slated for January.
A new book by Rowena Cherry is scheduled for February. I only remember this author because herfirst book Forced Mate was so heinous that I returned it to the bookstore and voted for it as worst in the AAR poll that year. :shrugs: Apparently others liked it enough that her publisher is willing to release Insufficient Mating Material. Hmmm. Sounds vaguely Data-ish, crossed with pr0n. Or maybe my mind is just in the gutter. No thanks.
Ann Christopher will have a new contemporary out, Risk, which I'd be interested in...except I'm still looking for a copy of her last release, Trouble. And my new resolution is to not buy a later book in a series until I've read the first.
MJD has a new book, Doing It Right out in February. Meh. I still read the Betsy books (via library) but am finished with her other stuff unless I hear amazing buzz.
Barbara Michaels, Jennifer Crusie and Elizabeth Lowell all have reissues, as does La Nora via Silhouette. Her early Irish categories, which I've read. I wouldn't necessarily recommend them, unless you are interested in comparing them to her later work as an exercise of measuring her growth as a writer.
Susan Isaacs has a new hardcover, Past Perfect. I love her books Shining Through and Close Relations.
Lora Leigh has a new book out, but I'm finished trying to read her.
Deirdre Martin has another hockey romance coming soon, Chasing Stanley. Eh.
And of course, the next In Death book and SEP's Natural Born Charmer, which are on my pre-order list, are out in February. Dean Robillard was the best part of Match Me If You Can, I thought.
Isabel Sharpe has a book titled Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakthrough, which I assume is a play in some way on Almodovar's Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, one of my favorite movies ever. {I'm an Almodovar fan girl. I'm waiting for his latest to come to the independent theatre nearest me.)
Alison Weir's historical about Lady Jane Grey is due out in February. I find Lady Jane fascinating. But I thought some of Weir's conclusions in her Eleanor of Aquitaine book were questionable and not well developed (or cited/sourced), so this will probably be a library book.
The latest Lackey/Gellis collaboration is coming from Baen books. I'm not entirely thrilled with these, to be honest. I like Gellis's historicals but am not that impressed with Lackey.
Morgan Hawke's Kiss of the Wolf is on my wish list, despite the squick-itude of one of her Interstellar book that I read last month.
Patricia Briggs and Keri Arthur each have the next paranormal books in their series out in February. I've read the 1st Arthur book (meh) and Briggs' Moon Called is TBR.
Nalini Singh has a Silhouette Desire slated for February release, Bound by Marriage. With all of the good word of mouth her single title paranormal release has received, I'm wondering if her future in categories will be short. Especially since a second paranormal is due out in '07.
There's another Harry Dresden book out, probably timed to go with the debut of the TV series on the Sci-Fi (or is it FX?) Channel.
In March (and this isn't on a list on AAR, I'm just so anxious and excited that I have to include it), the long awaited Beau Crusoe from Carla Kelly will be released. I'm thinking about buying extra copies of this one, actually, so I can pimp it to people.

Rowena Cherry's IMM release
Date: 2007-01-04 06:14 pm (UTC)Too many times I see thumbs down "opinions", and I buy the book just to see if it's as bad as the person says. It RARELY is. No book pleases everyone. Each book needs to find an audience. You don't like Cherry don't read her.
Others do love her unique charm - clear by all the awards she wins (yes, I took time to visit her website). And you said it -- the publisher bought a second, and likely more from that author. Publishers don't take those risks unless they believe in the books.
I will be standing in line to get this book, too. And decide for myself.

I didn't inflict it on anyone -- I didn't post on a website, message board, forum or chat group devoted to or hosted by Ms. Cherry, which would indeed have been rude and troll-like. I posted my opinion on my blog, which readers view only by affirmatively choosing to do so.
You are entitled to your opinion; as you say, differing opinions make the world interesting. I'm glad that you enjoyed Forced Mate; obviously, it didn't work for me. I hope that you enjoy IMM as well. The romance novel industry is full of authors who "work" for some readers but not others. As I indicated in my post, I likely will not be reading Ms. Cherry in the future, although I do appreciate her gracious comment below.
